With Keyword research analysis you compare the results of the previous chapter (How to do keyword research) side by side to see which keywords have a reasonable number of searches per month whilst at the same time have relatively small competition. You will also analyze your competitor's websites to see how well search engine optimized they are. The R/S value shows the number of Google Results divided by the number of Searches. Here you are looking for a low R/S value. The lower the R/S value, the less competition you have and the more chance you have in getting your site ranked number one on the Google Results page. The keyword research analysis below shows there are some as high as 30.68 - you'll want to avoid these. Better ones for beginners to target are 1.43, 1.45, or 1.58. These are the keywords you should be considering to base your web page content around. Later, as you gain more expertise you can try some of the others.
Spy on enemyBut before you go any further, you need to study your competitors before the battle. Go to Google search and type in the first keyword phrase you’re considering. Look at the left side of the results page and you’ll see the top ranking websites competing for that particular keyword. First, check out the PageRank for each of the top 10 websites listed on the results page.
If you haven’t got Google’s PageRank toolbar on your browser you can download it for free at http://toolbar.google.com/.
If your top competitors have a PageRank of 6 or more , they will be too hard for you as a beginner, to beat. It also matters how well they’ve search engine optimized their sites. If they’ve done a good job, it means they know what they’re doing and it will be hard for you to out-rank them. But if they haven’t, and their PageRank is 5 or lower, you can beat them. All you now need to do is replicate what they’ve done and then further improve upon it. The above process can take a lot of time but nevertheless is important. If you prefer, Keyword Elite can cut the above steps to mere minutes - view their online Project videos 2 & 4. You will also need to note how many back-links they have linking back to their sites as this affects PageRank. Simply click on the drop-down arrow on the PageRank bar and then choose "Backward Links" as shown below.
You will then be able to see not only how many back-links they have pointing back to their site, but also a detailed list of them as shown below. You will then be able to contact the webmasters of the listed sites to see if you can exchange links with them. If you can get more backlinks than your competitor, you can outrank them.
Beat them ..... your own backlinksYou can acquire back-links by submitting articles to article directories – each article contains a Resource Box wherein you include a link to your website. For further information The Amazing Article Formula provides step-by-step help. You can also post to forums. Again, each post also includes a link back to your website. Article submission is an excellent way of obtaining one-way back-links to your site, as well as getting free traffic. Website publishers visit article directories and if they like your article, can use it on their own website as long as they keep the Resource Box intact. Each article has the potential to spread across the Internet together with your website link, and this in turn multiplies your backlinks. You can also acquire link partners (see sidebar tips). SEO Elite is another handy tool that offers excellent training on this whilst also helping to automate the process. So it is important in your keyword research analysis to carefully weigh the pros and cons of each keyword against each other. This includes how many searches are made for that keyword, how many competitors that keyword presents, and how well your competitors have availed themselves to search engine optimizing their websites.
