Tips for Website DesignWhen you build your website, take special thought about its design. Have you ever been lost deep within a website not knowing where you are – the only recourse being to simply hit the “Back” button? Well, you don’t want that happening to your visitors. Road Signs For Your WebsiteHave adequate links available to show visitors where everything is. And don’t place them in unusual places. How would you like to come to a road intersection in the middle of the bush and there are no road signs to be seen – well, at least you can’t see any? And then much, much later, you find the road signs high up on a tree trunk. You expect them to be where they should be – right at the intersection on a clearly visible post. This applies to your website. Don’t annoy your visitors. People expect your navigation links to be where they usually are – either down the left or right side, or sometimes across the top, but certainly not in some obscure, hard to find place. Never-ending Web PagesDon’t allow your web pages to go on and on forever. The recommended maximum number of words per web page is about 500 words. Although people are happy to spend hours reading a good book in bed, web surfers are notorious for being impatient with a short attention span. They’re also generally “skimmers” – meaning they may not read everything word-for-word. It makes it easier on the eyes if your web page content is broken up into very short paragraphs with lots of headings and bullets to break up the text into readable pieces. Provide lots of white space around the text to give your readers' eyes somewhere to rest and to help them not lose their place.
